GSD3 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
C

FutureB
The Packers lost the trade table, and the C tells the story. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him.
Landing Legette that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
So much rides on Edgerrin Cooper that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick54
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
Fair-plus on T.J. Tampa, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock slid further than he should have, and the 85th pick is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick88
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at No. 88 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Trey Benson
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
A want over a need in the 127th overall pick: Tykee Smith adds a safety while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in pick No. 129 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick135
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
They paid up for Dylan Laube at the 135th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in the 168th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 204 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick243
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at pick 243, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jordan Magee
Jordan Magee at slot 251 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick255
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edefuan Ulofoshio in No. 255. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
