Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
The Patriots lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. Nobody had Malik Verdon this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 82 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 22.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Walker pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
They paid sticker price for Tyleik Williams in the 38th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the 41st overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at No. 42 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick100
Rnd3
Joshua Farmer
A reach for Joshua Farmer in pick No. 100; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans in pick 106 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick132
Rnd4
Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord at the 132nd overall pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick217
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
By-the-book stuff, Phil Mafah at slot 217 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in Round 7, Pick 4 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick238
Rnd7
Malik Verdon
This one needs a full-page explanation: Malik Verdon in the Round 7 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
