Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Steelers took Sam Hartman a full 38 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 51st overall pick on Zach Frazier with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick89 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mike Sainristil at No. 89 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
Nice patience on Jaden Hicks, who had no business lasting to slot 120. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick121 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at pick No. 121, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at pick 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick197 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hartman in the 197th pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238 Rnd7 Christian Jones
Christian Jones in No. 238 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
