Wcoolers DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
C+
ValueB-

FutureA+
The phones sank the Patriots this weekend: C+. Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The McLaughlin pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Watts steal is the beam this whole class leans on. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Aireontae Ersery
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
A slide stopped in slot 38, with Colston Loveland worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
The board had Xavier Watts higher than the 58th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick77
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at pick 77 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick106
Rnd4
RJ Harvey
They reached into another round for RJ Harvey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Value said wait; Seth McLaughlin in the 144th pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick166
Rnd5
Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales in pick No. 166 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick171
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A premium they did not need to pay, JJ Pegues a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in Round 7, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick238
Rnd7
Cam Horsley
They paid up for Cam Horsley at No. 238 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
