John Gulbunny DRAFTING FOR THEJets

Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jets left with their quarterback, and a B to match. The Jets clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric Gentry, taking him 110 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Fernando Mendoza gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick18
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In slot 18 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks slid further than he should have, and pick No. 34 is lovely value for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick46
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 14 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers in pick 104 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick176
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A clean, defensible pick in No. 176 with a little surplus value in Aamil Wagner. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick178
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
The board had cheaper options than Gracen Halton at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick196
Rnd6
Kalil Alexander
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kalil Alexander this early at slot 196. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205
Rnd6
Quinten Joyner
No edge and no loss on Quinten Joyner in Round 6, Pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick212
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
Value said wait; Eric Gentry in No. 212 says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick218
Rnd7
James Smith
James Smith in the 218th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
A big swing on Dominic Zvada at pick 239, well ahead of any board in the building. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
