Owen O DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall

ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Ja'Had Carter at the Round 6 slot is 43 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Nelson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In No. 19 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 41 with a little surplus value in Chop Robinson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick51
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 19 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick83
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 83 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in the 92nd overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick119
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Good price on Donovan Jackson in pick 119, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mike Sainristil
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mike Sainristil. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197
Rnd6
Ja'Had Carter
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ja'Had Carter in pick No. 197, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick217
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
A reach on Matthew Jones in the 217th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Zion Nelson
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Zion Nelson for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Nick Andersen
They reached a country mile for Nick Andersen at No. 240, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
