Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Roberts: B-.

Call it larceny. Jaeden Roberts sat on the board until pick No. 169, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.

Reaching for Lawrence left real value on the table behind him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Blake Miller
Blake Miller in the 63rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick 95 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
A straight-up fair deal on Eli Raridon at No. 125, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
They paid up for Malachi Lawrence at pick No. 131 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
The board fumbled Jaeden Roberts all the way to the 169th pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Albert Regis
Albert Regis at Round 6, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick200 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
They paid sticker price for Le'Veon Moss in slot 200, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207 Rnd6 Red Murdock
You do not let a linebacker like Red Murdock reach Round 6, Pick 28 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick210 Rnd6 Trey Moore
Trey Moore at No. 210 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247 Rnd7 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at the 247th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
