Draft Grade — Bears

Haynes should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B. The board owed the Bears one, and it paid up: Christian Haynes, the No. 77 name on the board, sitting there at slot 134 like a gift left on the doorstep.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Spending an early pick on safety with cornerback and linebacker open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 9 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick32
Rnd1
Kamren Kinchens
In No. 32 they get a rangy last line of defense. More want than need.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Nothing to complain about; Ruke Orhorhoro went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at the 110th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 22 on Cole Bishop with cornerback and linebacker unsolved.
Pick134
Rnd4
Christian Haynes
They barely believed it either: Christian Haynes still on the board at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in pick 169 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick253
Rnd7
Braiden McGregor
Steal is underselling it; Braiden McGregor at pick No. 253 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
