FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bears came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
Bishop has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They banked enough surplus on Franklin to cover a lot of smaller sins.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In No. 10 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Value with a capital V on Keon Coleman in the 36th pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick40
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 8, where Troy Franklin graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malachi Corley. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at pick 75 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Value said wait; Cole Bishop in the 110th overall pick says they were not listening. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick122
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at pick No. 122 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick146
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at slot 146 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
