Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureB-
The Saints kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The Saints did not so much draft Fred Davis as overpay for him, 142 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

However the rest shakes out, Mukuba at that price is a win they earned. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the 9th overall pick they get a bell-cow for the offense at fair value.
Pick40 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to Round 2, Pick 8, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jack Bech
Jack Bech in slot 71 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick93 Rnd3 Harold Fannin Jr.
They robbed the room for Harold Fannin Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick111 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
They barely believed it either: Andrew Mukuba still on the board at No. 111. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick114 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo slid further than he should have, and pick No. 114 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick130 Rnd4 Chase Lundt
A big swing on Chase Lundt at pick No. 130, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in slot 198 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick227 Rnd7 J.J. Weaver
They talked themselves into J.J. Weaver at pick 227, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230 Rnd7 Fred Davis
A wild overpay on Fred Davis in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
