Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

The needs board said one thing and the Steelers did another, using the 81st pick on Zach Frazier while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots waited. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Newton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting Frazier proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
Nothing to complain about; Rome Odunze went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick48 Rnd2 Josh Newton
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 16. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick80 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
A reach on Christian Haynes in the 80th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick81 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent slot 81 on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick116 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
Fair-plus on Roman Wilson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 James Williams
They went early on James Williams in pick No. 121, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at pick 194 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Reuben Fatheree II
Reuben Fatheree II at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
