Draft Grade — Bears

FutureC+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B. The Ethan Downs selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 53 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting Emmanwori where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 10 they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach Round 2, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick49
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Taking Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 49 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick50
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They paid up for Demetrius Knight Jr. at the 50th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick92
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Good price on Deone Walker in the 92nd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119
Rnd4
Chimere Dike
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chimere Dike in the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown in pick No. 148 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick233
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ethan Downs in Round 7, Pick 17, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick240
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They did well to land Isaac TeSlaa in the 240th pick, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
