Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Jets to a D+.

The Jets went off the board in a big way for Sam Hartman, 63 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Thomas Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Taking Brian Thomas Jr. in slot 62 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Jordan Morgan
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jordan Morgan in the 72nd pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick78 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
A tidy little value on Ja'Lynn Polk in pick No. 78, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick81 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They did well to land Cooper Beebe in No. 81, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 26 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at slot 112 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in the 117th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick124 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in No. 124, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
A tidy bit of business in the 128th overall pick, where Tyler Davis graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick129 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams slipping to Round 4, Pick 29 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
A quiet steal in pick 131: Jarvis Brownlee Jr. for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick151 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick184 Rnd6 Jalyx Hunt
They read the board right and Jalyx Hunt was the payoff at pick No. 184. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick200 Rnd6 Anthony Gould
Anthony Gould at the 200th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick218 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
The board fumbled Tahj Washington all the way to slot 218, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
Value said wait; Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick246 Rnd7 Rasheen Ali
They will replay Rasheen Ali at Round 7, Pick 26 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick256 Rnd7 Keaton Bills
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 256 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick257 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
Circle this one: Trevin Wallace at No. 257 is a fall that decides a draft. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
