Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Sampson from sliding. Grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Dylan Sampson slide 88 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Reaching for McLaughlin left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In the 22nd overall pick they get a two-high chess piece. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick84 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at the 84th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick120 Rnd4 Seth McLaughlin
A wild overpay on Seth McLaughlin in pick No. 120, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick131 Rnd4 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in slot 131 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 17 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in pick 155 is fair value, right on his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick196 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at No. 196 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick223 Rnd7 Clay Webb
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Clay Webb. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick229 Rnd7 Raheim Sanders
You do not let a running back like Raheim Sanders reach slot 229 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick242 Rnd7 Cooper Mays
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cooper Mays in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
