Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears let Judkins fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Quinshon Judkins had no business being available in the Round 4 slot, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

They are betting Sanders proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The veteran additions, Quenton Nelson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
A reach on Jack Sawyer in Round 1, Pick 22; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in the 39th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick41 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau in slot 41 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick51 Rnd2 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at the 51st overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in No. 72 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They let Andrew Mukuba come to them and pounced at pick 86. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick120 Rnd4 Quinshon Judkins
Circle this one: Quinshon Judkins at pick No. 120 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jake Majors
The board had Jake Majors higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jared Wilson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jared Wilson in the 147th overall pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick157 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in pick 157 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
They will replay Jonah Monheim at the 193rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick205 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 30, with Luke Lachey worth more than the price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick233 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trevor Etienne in pick No. 233. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick240 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at slot 240 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
