Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureD+
The Bears let Moore fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bears watched Malachi Moore slide 54 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will need Tuimoloau to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
In No. 27 they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
They read the board right and Xavier Watts was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 26. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
They took Tate Ratledge at par in pick No. 72, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick 89 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A quiet steal in the 118th pick: Jake Majors for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at the 149th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick197
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
Value with a capital V on JJ Pegues in slot 197, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne is a better player than the 235th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick242
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
They will replay Kobe Hudson at slot 242 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
