jj3325 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Jackson Powers-Johnson, taking him 26 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That Wiley pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 1 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick41
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in pick 41 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Good price on Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 57th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
The board had Cooper Beebe higher than slot 88, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
They paid a round early for Jaden Hicks in the 91st overall pick, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
No drama and no debate, Jarrian Jones went about where he belonged in pick No. 126. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168
Rnd5
Isaiah Davis
A wild overpay on Isaiah Davis in slot 168, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick203
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at No. 203 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick216
Rnd6
Michael Wiley
Michael Wiley at the 216th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick243
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
They jumped the gun on Nathaniel Watson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick251
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
A quiet steal in pick 251: Daequan Hardy for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
