Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bengals let Carter fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Barrett Carter tumbling to the Bengals in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Mills lower, and that gap is the story.

They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In the 13th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in pick 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kaleb Johnson in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick116 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
They left a pile of value on the table to take Rylie Mills this early at Round 4, Pick 15. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150 Rnd5 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at slot 150 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick188 Rnd6 Michael Taaffe
The board fumbled Michael Taaffe all the way to pick No. 188, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
