Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Larceny in No. 151 lands the Bengals a B+, Jones and all.

Whoever sat across the table from the Bengals should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.

On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive. Andersen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Adding DeMarcus Lawrence by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 JC Latham
In slot 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in the 49th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick80 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kingsley Suamataia in Round 3, Pick 16, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
Nice patience on Johnny Wilson, who had no business lasting to pick 87. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115 Rnd4 Bucky Irving
The board fumbled Bucky Irving all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
They barely believed it either: Jarrian Jones still on the board at the 151st overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174 Rnd5 AJ Barner
They talked themselves into AJ Barner at No. 174, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196 Rnd6 Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis slid further than he should have, and pick 196 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238 Rnd7 Tatum Bethune
A premium they did not need to pay, Tatum Bethune a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245 Rnd7 Nick Andersen
A real head-scratcher, Nick Andersen in the 245th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick254 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
They paid sticker price for Walter Rouse in the 254th overall pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
