DutchNugget DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks

Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
F
ValueB-

TradesF
FutureD-
The Seahawks reached for McGlothern and never recovered. Grade: F. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Seahawks did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and quarterback still on the board. If McGlothern pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In pick 11 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick12
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 12th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
No edge and no loss on T.J. Tampa in the 39th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A conviction pick on Zach Frazier at No. 49 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Junior Colson in pick No. 70 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at slot 80 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81
Rnd3
Maason Smith
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 81 on Maason Smith with edge rusher and quarterback unsolved.
Pick107
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in the 107th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick113
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
No drama and no debate, Ainias Smith went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster in pick 115 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118
Rnd4
James Williams
They went early on James Williams in the 118th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick154
Rnd5
McCallan Castles
They took McCallan Castles at par in Round 5, Pick 18, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at No. 156 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick157
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A premium they did not need to pay, Kitan Oladapo a notch or two before his time. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick194
Rnd6
AJ Barner
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at pick No. 194, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy at slot 214 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick236
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at pick 236 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
