The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Viliamu-Asa: B. The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa fell into pick No. 116. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Colin Simmons
In pick 22 they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick73
Rnd3
Will Echoles
Will Echoles at No. 73 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
A'Mauri Washington
Circle this one: A'Mauri Washington at slot 84 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick116
Rnd4
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa in the 116th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick125
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu in Round 4, Pick 23 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick147
Rnd5
Luke Montgomery
Somehow Luke Montgomery was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick150
Rnd5
LJ Martin
They barely believed it either: LJ Martin still on the board at pick No. 150. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick172
Rnd5
DJ Lagway
DJ Lagway at the 172nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick192
Rnd6
Xavier Lucas
They will replay Xavier Lucas at pick 192 for years; that is how good the value is. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick201
Rnd6
John Nestor
A tidy bit of business in the 201st overall pick, where John Nestor graded well above the range. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick221
Rnd6
Elijah Paige
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Elijah Paige in pick No. 221, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241
Rnd7
Mason Curtis
Taking Mason Curtis in Round 7, Pick 20 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
