Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureD
Larceny in the 66th overall pick lands the 49ers a C+, Echoles and all.

The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Will Echoles, the No. 13 name on the board, sitting there at Round 3, Pick 2 like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Moore reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Jadan Baugh
In slot 32 they get a lead back with juice. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick66 Rnd3 Will Echoles
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 2 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106 Rnd4 Greg Johnson
Circle this one: Greg Johnson at the 106th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134 Rnd4 Ian Moore
They jumped the gun on Ian Moore, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba at the 169th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Kam Robinson
Kam Robinson in pick No. 182 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick190 Rnd6 Jayden Virgin-Morgan
Jayden Virgin-Morgan in pick 190 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick196 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick209 Rnd6 King Mack
Somehow King Mack was still sitting there in No. 209, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick222 Rnd7 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at Round 7, Pick 1 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252 Rnd7 Sammy Omosigho
Sammy Omosigho in the 252nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
