Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureD-
The 49ers robbed the room for Echoles. Final grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Will Echoles sat on the board until slot 62, and the 49ers did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will answer for taking safety early while tight end and linebacker went begging.

The Staley pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick62 Rnd2 Will Echoles
They barely believed it either: Will Echoles still on the board at slot 62. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94 Rnd3 Braylon Staley
They paid up for Braylon Staley at Round 3, Pick 30 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jaylen McClain
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 118 on Jaylen McClain with tight end and linebacker unsolved.
Pick131 Rnd4 Dylan Raiola
Dylan Raiola at the 131st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick144 Rnd5 Ian Moore
No edge and no loss on Ian Moore in pick 144; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick154 Rnd5 J'Koby Williams
By-the-book stuff, J'Koby Williams at the 154th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick168 Rnd5 Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba at pick No. 168 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick196 Rnd6 Drew Bobo
Drew Bobo slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick208 Rnd6 King Mack
You do not let a safety like King Mack reach pick No. 208 and blink. They did not. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick210 Rnd6 Dezz Ricks
They let Dezz Ricks come to them and pounced at the 210th overall pick. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick235 Rnd7 C.J. Fite
C.J. Fite in Round 7, Pick 14 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick252 Rnd7 Donovan Jones
A reasonable price with a little left over, Donovan Jones in the Round 7 slot. The roster logic is harder to follow.
