FutureB
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. The Bears bet big and early on Jack Kiser, 34 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Emmanwori falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The veteran additions, Trevor Penning chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 27 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in the 39th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick41
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at Round 2, Pick 9 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
By-the-book stuff, Tate Ratledge at pick No. 72 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Jared Wilson at pick 91, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Kiser. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick187
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
A reach for Thomas Fidone II in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick233
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
No edge and no loss on Isaac TeSlaa in the 233rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at pick No. 240 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
