Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Chiefs got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chiefs shredded theirs for Malachi Lawrence. He came off 33 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

That Cooper Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Blake Miller
A wild overpay on Blake Miller in No. 44, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick56 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker at pick 56 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick70 Rnd3 Anthony Lucas
A real head-scratcher, Anthony Lucas in Round 3, Pick 6 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick72 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Good price on Jake Golday in the 72nd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick74 Rnd3 Max Iheanachor
They took Max Iheanachor at par in the 74th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick91 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in pick No. 91 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick109 Rnd4 Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 109th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malachi Lawrence well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick111 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
They read the board right and Daylen Everette was the payoff at pick 111. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick119 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
They paid up for Mike Washington Jr. at Round 4, Pick 19 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139 Rnd5 Sam Roush
They reached into another round for Sam Roush, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Domani Jackson at No. 146 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick156 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
No drama and no debate, Aaron Graves went about where he belonged in the 156th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick157 Rnd5 Treydan Stukes
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Treydan Stukes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick161 Rnd5 Lander Barton
They jumped the gun on Lander Barton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Charles Jagusah
Value said wait; Charles Jagusah in pick 163 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan in the 176th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185 Rnd6 Miles Kitselman
They liked Miles Kitselman enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 185. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick187 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in pick No. 187 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick220 Rnd7 Daevin Hobbs
No edge and no loss on Daevin Hobbs in No. 220; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
