Draft Grade — Giants
Overall A-
ValueA NeedC- TradesA+ FutureA+
The Giants won the night they stopped Taaffe from sliding. Grade: A-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Michael Taaffe at pick 131 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Rueben Bain Jr. and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Rueben Bain Jr.
Rueben Bain Jr. at No. 21 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick37 Rnd2 Colton Hood
Colton Hood is a better player than pick 37 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick63 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slipping to the 63rd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in slot 75 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick79 Rnd3 Chris Johnson
Taking Chris Johnson in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick92 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
The board fumbled Antonio Williams all the way to pick No. 92, and they scooped it up. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick99 Rnd3 Keylan Rutledge
Steal is underselling it; Keylan Rutledge at the 99th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick105 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
They barely believed it either: Mike Washington Jr. still on the board at Round 4, Pick 5. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick113 Rnd4 De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick125 Rnd4 Treydan Stukes
Circle this one: Treydan Stukes at slot 125 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick131 Rnd4 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in No. 131 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick135 Rnd4 Brian Parker II
Somehow Brian Parker II was still sitting there in pick 135, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jude Bowry
They read the board right and Jude Bowry was the payoff at pick No. 145. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jakobe Thomas
Jakobe Thomas at the 152nd overall pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick171 Rnd5 Chris McClellan
They robbed the room for Chris McClellan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick192 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
A tight end of that caliber at the 192nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick193 Rnd6 Anez Cooper
Nice patience on Anez Cooper, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick215 Rnd6 Taylen Green
You do not let a quarterback like Taylen Green reach Round 6, Pick 34 and blink. They did not. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
