The Giants answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 72 spots for Oronde Gadsden II, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick16
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In pick No. 16 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Taliese Fuaga
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Taliese Fuaga. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40
Rnd2
Princely Umanmielen
A big swing on Princely Umanmielen at the 40th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick57
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
A wild overpay on Cooper Beebe in slot 57, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson is a better player than the 67th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103
Rnd4
Oronde Gadsden II
They left a pile of value on the table to take Oronde Gadsden II this early at pick 103. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140
Rnd5
Cam Hart
They talked themselves into Cam Hart at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Fentrell Cypress II
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Fentrell Cypress II. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick186
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in Round 6, Pick 11 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
