BillMarcondes DRAFTING FOR THEGiants
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sanders is the Giants' new face under center. Grade: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Kaleb Johnson slide 104 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shedeur Sanders. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick33
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 33 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at No. 66 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in the 102nd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 134 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick155
Rnd5
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 155th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick217
Rnd7
J.Michael Sturdivant
J.Michael Sturdivant in Round 7, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
They paid sticker price for Shilo Sanders in slot 245, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
