The steal of the weekend belongs to the Colts and Hardy: B. The Colts did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Daequan Hardy fell into the 232nd overall pick.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Colts indulged a want in Newton while a need in quarterback, running back and other spots stayed open.
They are betting Cohen proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Ladd McConkey
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
They took Kris Jenkins at par in the 46th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick86
Rnd3
DJ James
By-the-book stuff, DJ James at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick118
Rnd4
Renardo Green
Good price on Renardo Green in pick 118, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick128
Rnd4
Josh Newton
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Josh Newton at cornerback with quarterback, running back and other spots open.
Pick133
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at the 133rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
They reached into another round for Javion Cohen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at slot 158 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick193
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tahj Washington. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy in pick 232 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
