Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Jaguars won the night they stopped Simpson from sliding. Grade: B+.

Somebody in the 174th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Jaguars sat still while Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Suamataia pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Jaguars clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Kingsley Suamataia
In slot 32 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick64 Rnd2 Javon Baker
Javon Baker at the 64th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
They will replay Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 100 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick114 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
A real head-scratcher, Mohamed Kamara in Round 4, Pick 14 is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick116 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A conviction pick on Johnny Wilson at pick No. 116 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139 Rnd5 Will Shipley
Taking Will Shipley in pick 139 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick153 Rnd5 Javon Foster
They barely believed it either: Javon Foster still on the board at the 153rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick156 Rnd5 Brennan Jackson
Brennan Jackson in Round 5, Pick 20 is fair value, right on his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jaylin Simpson in the 174th overall pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick212 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
Circle this one: Fabien Lovett at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236 Rnd7 Tatum Bethune
A clean, defensible pick in slot 236 with a little surplus value in Tatum Bethune. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick244 Rnd7 Richard Jibunor
A big swing on Richard Jibunor at pick 244, well ahead of any board in the building. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick252 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at No. 252 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
