Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureC+
The Bears let Golday fall and pounced. Final grade: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
The Bears indulged a want in McNeil-Warren while a need in running back stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. That Golday pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Every board in the league had Bowry lower, and that gap is the story.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald in the 36th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick38
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Value with a capital V on Sonny Styles in pick 38, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick44
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A quiet steal in No. 44: Dillon Thieneman for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick57
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at Round 2, Pick 25 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69
Rnd3
Dontay Corleone
Dontay Corleone in the 69th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Emmanuel McNeil-Warren while clear needs at running back sat open.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry in pick 102 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Mikail Kamara
No edge and no loss on Mikail Kamara in No. 106; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jake Golday
You do not let an edge rusher like Jake Golday reach the 115th pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
A slide stopped in pick No. 117, with D'Angelo Ponds worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick128
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
They robbed the room for Zachariah Branch here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Raridon in the Round 4 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick160
Rnd5
Logan Jones
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 22 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick163
Rnd5
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the 163rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick165
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
Somehow DeMonte Capehart was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 27, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at the 175th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick178
Rnd5
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia in No. 178 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick239
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A tidy bit of business in pick 239, where Riley Mahlman graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
Circle this one: Brett Norfleet at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
