Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Iamaleava from sliding. Grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Nico Iamaleava sat on the board until the 212th pick, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Reaching for Collins left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In No. 20 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Jayden Maiava
Jayden Maiava at Round 2, Pick 19 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick78 Rnd3 Caleb Tiernan
They paid up for Caleb Tiernan at slot 78 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick85 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Michael Taaffe worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Sam Leavitt
A tidy bit of business in the 99th overall pick, where Sam Leavitt graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick120 Rnd4 Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine at pick 120 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133 Rnd4 Demond Claiborne
By-the-book stuff, Demond Claiborne at pick No. 133 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick159 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 159th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick200 Rnd6 Kage Casey
They robbed the room for Kage Casey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick212 Rnd6 Nico Iamaleava
Nico Iamaleava in pick 212 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213 Rnd6 Kelby Collins
A big swing on Kelby Collins at slot 213, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick234 Rnd7 Shamar Easter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Shamar Easter in the Round 7 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
