MPLS1989 DRAFTING FOR THERams
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Rams
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Larceny in pick No. 247 lands the Rams a B-, Fifita and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Rams were there to profit. Noah Fifita, the No. 218 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 7 slot. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Dunker has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
In slot 11 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the 27th pick they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick58
Rnd2
John Mateer
They robbed the room for John Mateer here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Quietly one of the better values of the day, A.J. Haulcy at the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick142
Rnd5
Logan Jones
They did well to land Logan Jones in Round 5, Pick 2, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick166
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in No. 166 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick191
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick 191 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204
Rnd6
Quintrevion Wisner
Quintrevion Wisner at the 204th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Nolan Rucci
They went early on Nolan Rucci in pick 226, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick247
Rnd7
Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita in slot 247 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
