MPLS1989 DRAFTING FOR THEColts
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Colts
Overall
C+
ValueC

FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Colts get a C+. There is reaching, and then there is Chandler Rivers at pick No. 64. The Colts jumped the board by 31 and dared it to prove them wrong.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
If Chandler Rivers and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick64
Rnd2
Chandler Rivers
Value said wait; Chandler Rivers in the 64th overall pick says they were not listening. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick96
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks in pick No. 96 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick132
Rnd4
Derrick Moore
A reach on Derrick Moore in No. 132; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick172
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott at the 172nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214
Rnd6
Khalil Barnes
Khalil Barnes in Round 6, Pick 35 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick246
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
They took Smith Snowden at par in slot 246, which is nothing to complain about. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick249
Rnd7
Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie at the 249th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
