Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bengals were there to profit. Ja'Kobi Lane, the No. 54 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 72.

The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Cam Calhoun at the 198th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
