Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B

The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Hadden: B.

The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kamal Hadden fell into the 177th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 32 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in slot 64 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson in pick No. 95 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick98 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
They did well to land Zak Zinter in the 98th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick132 Rnd4 Isaiah Adams
Nothing to complain about; Isaiah Adams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick177 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
Taking Kamal Hadden in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at pick 210 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick213 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at Round 6, Pick 38 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Jawhar Jordan
Good price on Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 215, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick253 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
They read the board right and Joshua Cephus was the payoff at No. 253. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
