The Steelers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. Somebody took the Steelers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Sanders has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. However the rest shakes out, Knight Jr. at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a No. 1 receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick69
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They read the board right and Demetrius Knight Jr. was the payoff at the 69th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
A tidy bit of business in slot 83, where Maxwell Hairston graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Tyler Shough
They paid a round early for Tyler Shough in the 123rd overall pick, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick156
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185
Rnd6
Clay Webb
A straight-up fair deal on Clay Webb at No. 185, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick229
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at pick No. 229 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
