FutureC
Scott should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a B. The board owed the Bills one, and it paid up: Justin Scott, the No. 20 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 72 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The White reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The Bolden pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and tight end still on the board. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
They will replay Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at pick 38 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick41
Rnd2
KJ Bolden
A want over a need in the 41st overall pick: KJ Bolden adds a safety while running back and tight end keeps waiting.
Pick56
Rnd2
Nick Marsh
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and tight end to take Nick Marsh, a wide receiver that was not the priority.
Pick72
Rnd3
Justin Scott
Justin Scott at the 72nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
Somehow Kade Pieper was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick109
Rnd4
Evan Tengesdahl
Evan Tengesdahl slid further than he should have, and pick No. 109 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Trey White
A big swing on Trey White at Round 4, Pick 22, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142
Rnd5
Amare Ferrell
Amare Ferrell in No. 142 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick156
Rnd5
Justin Evans
Circle this one: Justin Evans at the 156th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick168
Rnd5
Cayden Lee
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cayden Lee. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A tidy bit of business in the 175th pick, where Jermaine Mathews Jr. graded well above the range. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick211
Rnd6
C.J. Fite
Nothing to complain about; C.J. Fite went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick218
Rnd6
DeAndre Moore Jr.
DeAndre Moore Jr. in No. 218 is fair value, right on his grade. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick247
Rnd7
La'khi Roland
You do not let a cornerback like La'khi Roland reach pick 247 and blink. They did not. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick248
Rnd7
Boo Carter
The board had Boo Carter higher than slot 248, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick253
Rnd7
Conner Weigman
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 253 with a little surplus value in Conner Weigman. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
