Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 88 spots for Kalil Alexander, and value like that does not grow back.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Reese makes the weekend a net positive.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 12th overall pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick24 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In slot 24 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in pick 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177 Rnd5 Kalil Alexander
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kalil Alexander. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick191 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in pick No. 191 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick216 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jalen Thompson
Value said wait; Jalen Thompson in slot 229 says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
