Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Vikings let Robertson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Vikings were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The Robertson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Reaching for Coogan left real value on the table behind him. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In No. 15 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick64 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at slot 64 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Colton Hood
No drama and no debate, Colton Hood went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick79 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Nothing to complain about; Deontae Lawson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick85 Rnd3 Will Lee III
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 85th overall pick on Will Lee III with edge rusher unsolved.
Pick96 Rnd3 Joe Royer
Nice patience on Joe Royer, who had no business lasting to the 96th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97 Rnd3 Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton at pick 97 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Gracen Halton
Value said wait; Gracen Halton in No. 169 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kevin Coleman Jr. at slot 172. It fills a real need, too.
Pick200 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Good price on Bud Clark in the 200th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick210 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
The board fumbled Sawyer Robertson all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick228 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Pat Coogan well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
