Draft Grade — Vikings

Best value of the weekend goes to the Vikings for Harvey: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Vikings were there to profit. DJ Harvey, the No. 185 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 240th overall pick.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Brown pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 18 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick49
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They did well to land Dillon Thieneman in slot 49, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the 82nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick97
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in Round 3, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Drew Allar
A quarterback of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Barion Brown
They paid up for Barion Brown at the 194th pick when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jalil Farooq
Jalil Farooq at pick No. 234 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
DJ Harvey
The board fumbled DJ Harvey all the way to pick 240, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
