Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-

A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B- weekend for the Jets.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Jets committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

Payton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Landing Robertson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick32 Rnd1 CJ Allen
In No. 32 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35 Rnd2 Christen Miller
They let Christen Miller come to them and pounced at the 35th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick46 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
A reach on Nyck Harbor in slot 46; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick103 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley
The board had Zakee Wheatley higher than the Round 4 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick178 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Patrick Payton. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick192 Rnd6 Josh Moten
By-the-book stuff, Josh Moten at pick No. 192 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205 Rnd6 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at Round 6, Pick 26 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick207 Rnd6 Jordan Castell
Jordan Castell at the 207th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick239 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in Round 7, Pick 25 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick254 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci in pick 254 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick255 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at No. 255 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
