Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Oladapo should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Kitan Oladapo slide 37 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Wedig pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Chop Robinson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jonathon Brooks
A straight-up fair deal on Jonathon Brooks at No. 57, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
You do not let an edge rusher like Chris Braswell reach slot 88 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 91st pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick125
Rnd4
Max Melton
Max Melton at Round 4, Pick 25 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Foster in pick 135. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick203
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo in the 203rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick217
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Christian Jones in No. 217 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219
Rnd6
Joshua Cephus
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joshua Cephus. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick246
Rnd7
Trey Wedig
They reached into another round for Trey Wedig, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
