Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
A passer of the future in Maye, and a A, for the Patriots.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 30 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 4 slot. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A.

Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick 7 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick8 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Rome Odunze
Taking Rome Odunze in pick 38 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kool-Aid McKinstry
You do not let a cornerback like Kool-Aid McKinstry reach slot 40 and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick43 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at No. 43, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk is a better player than the 68th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 11. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick103 Rnd4 Quinyon Mitchell
A curious use of the 103rd pick. Edge rusher and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Quinyon Mitchell did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jaden Hicks
They will replay Jaden Hicks at pick No. 139 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick184 Rnd6 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224 Rnd7 Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali at pick 224 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jordan Magee
They barely believed it either: Jordan Magee still on the board at slot 232. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
