kellox DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Seahawks let Barron fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somebody in the Round 2 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Seahawks sat still while Jahdae Barron, the No. 15 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Reaching for McLeod left real value on the table behind him. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 18th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick52
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Nothing to complain about; Aireontae Ersery went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at the 82nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
No drama and no debate, Jalen Milroe went about where he belonged in slot 92. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick172
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A reach on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 172; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
They talked themselves into Jalen McLeod at pick No. 175, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam in No. 223 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick234
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
A conviction pick on Zeek Biggers at pick 234 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
