The Cowboys let Eichenberg fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Tommy Eichenberg tumbling to the Cowboys in pick No. 174 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In slot 24 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks slipping to the 58th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 5: Kingsley Suamataia for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson in No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169
Rnd5
Walter Rouse
A clean, defensible pick in the 169th pick with a little surplus value in Walter Rouse. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
You do not let a linebacker like Tommy Eichenberg reach pick 174 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
