You could see the war room lean forward. Chris Paul Jr. at pick No. 229 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They will need Mahlman to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
