The Bears put a flag in the ground for Luke McCaffrey, 33 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Allen to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
