Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers robbed the room for Hampton. Final grade: D+.

Somebody in pick 109 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Omarion Hampton, the No. 30 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

The Lachey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In the 25th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Deone Walker
They paid up for Deone Walker at Round 2, Pick 20 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick58 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
A tidy little value on Isaiah Bond in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83 Rnd3 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in slot 83 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in No. 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Omarion Hampton
Taking Omarion Hampton in pick 109 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at pick No. 121 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick126 Rnd4 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 126th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick165 Rnd5 Luke Lachey
A wild overpay on Luke Lachey in pick No. 165, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223 Rnd7 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at Round 7, Pick 7 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
