Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Steelers, and a C+ to match.

The Steelers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 3 slot on Trinidad Chambliss a full 113 spots early.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

So much rides on KC Concepcion that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 KC Concepcion
In the 21st overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, reach and all.
Pick53 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
Value said wait; Caleb Tiernan in the 53rd pick says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76 Rnd3 Trinidad Chambliss
They reached a country mile for Trinidad Chambliss at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick85 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II slid further than he should have, and No. 85 is lovely value for the cornerback. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 35, where Omar Cooper Jr. graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
A wild overpay on Jacob Rodriguez in slot 121, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch slipping to Round 4, Pick 35 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159 Rnd5 Nic Anderson
Nothing to complain about; Nic Anderson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214 Rnd6 Taylen Green
Taylen Green at the 214th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A reach on Trey Zuhn III in slot 224; the board had better options right there. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick237 Rnd7 A'Marion Peterson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, A'Marion Peterson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
